Notably quotable.

Have you ever heard a quote that changed the way you thought about something - maybe even how you go about your life?

I love the quotes of Mark Twain, George Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde and several other of the usual suspects, but a philosophy of mine was altered by that crusty old bulldog, Winston Churchill.

Until many years ago I prided myself on making peace with people, and trying my best to get on with anyone. Then I read "I never trust a man without enemies. It means he has never stood up for anything."

Now, I try to piss off as many people as I can, all in the interest of conservation. This might get dangerous when I step into Brazil tomorrow...

  1. Dear Mr. Peter Allison,

I wanted to tell you that, at the moment, my brother & I are in the middle of reading your fantastic, adventure filled book: "Whatever You Do, Don't Run". I absolutely love it! You have a very interesting, humorous, yet completely intelligent style of writing & I'm having great difficulty putting the book down. Plus, the photos are amazing... I would love to travel to Africa one day. My family & I would all love it & we would love to meet you & possibly some of the animals!

Thank you for your time... have a blessed & beautiful day!

    Your Fan,
    Dria Ballew

P.S. I'm glad that you learned to accept your African nickname.

  2. Hi Dria,

I´m so glad that you and your brother are enjoying the book, and also hope you make it to Africa. For many people it changes their lives - it certainly did for me.

As for my nickname, it was one of the only ones I have ever had that stuck. I had to leave the country to get rid of it!

  3. Thank you so much for replying so quickly! I was just wondering if you still live in Africa? Or have you moved elsewhere?

  4. You´re welcome. I haven´t lived in Africa for a few years now, and am currently in South America for at least a year (and may settle here for a while), but do visit Botswana and Namibia regularly.

  5. I figured that... what are you doing in South America? More wildlife studies?

P.S. I hope you don't mind that I'm continuing to ask questions.

  6. No problems on the questions, just please forgive me if it takes a hwile to answer - the internet is either lacking or glacially slow where I am now (and as I wrote in another post, my laptop is deceased and yet to be replaced). I´m traveling South America because I have always wanted to, as simple as that, but as the lure was always its wildlife it has involved some loony things with animals (have a look on youtube by searching peter jubatus if you want to see me tied to a puma).

    Cheers,
    Peter

  7. I'll be sure to look that up. I'd have to say that buying a Mac will be something that you will not regret... I have a Mac laptop & I love it. I can have several things open at once & it stays running. What is South America like?
